1-18-2010

" Alright well I guess now it’s time to tell you about my week. The week has gone by really fast because we have been busy with lessons. We had 18 this week which is good for Albania so we were happy. We have 2 people with a baptismal date for February 28th and then another should also have a date set for February. The work is going really well here in this area and I am happy I have been here for this long. Usually you don’t stay in your birth area very long but I will be here for at least 4 months and if I don’t get moved in February I will be here for 6 months which is a long time for an elder’s first area. I would like to go somewhere else and see a different city and meet new people but I do enjoy it here and have come close to the members here. This Sunday we had 93 people in our little sacrament hall which was awesome. A lot of people can’t remember if it has ever been that full. As a district we are aiming for over 100 people by the end of January to be there.
This week seemed to be the week of dog fights and Cuna aka Boy fights. On Tuesday we were standing outside the church waiting for a meeting that was late and near the church is a pack of wild dogs. Probably around 8-12 dogs that hang out around that area. Wild dogs are a huge problem here. Anyways, while we were standing there a little girl was walking by coming back from school im guessing because she had her backpack and one of the dogs came after her. It was a big black one and then a white one came up on her to. And she freaked out and started screaming and tripped and fell down. And I take off after them before they get a hold of her and I start yelling and they were snapping at her legs and I boot one in the belly and it cries and takes off running and the other one follows. And I run after them and try barely get the other one in the head. Then the little girl gets up and runs off before I could see if she was ok. I think she might have been afraid of me because I was yelling. After that happened I noticed like 20 people on the streets trying to figure out what was going on, lol. These old ladies came up to me and my companion and started calling us beautiful boys and white doves ( because that’s what crazy ladies call us here =) ) and then she told us we were like animals and so big, lol. It was funny. Then we had a lesson and after the lesson the girl came back with her dad and the dad thanked us and tried giving us money but we couldn’t take it so he just invited us to his house one night. So we might try to go visit them this week depending if they’re free and if we have an open night.

We also so a big gang fight from our window. It was two gangs from a school but honestly that gangs at the schools here are pretty pathetic. The mafia is the real deal but the boys here are dumb and fight like girls. We were eating lunch and we are on the 8th floor and I heard yelling and so I looked out and there were 30 kids fighting in the street. It was funny watching them swing because they hit like girls. But then there is a pool hall near by and a few run in there and come out with pool sticks and start whacking people with them and then they broke them and started trying to stab people but that’s when everyone ran and nobody got to hurt. Right after that 10 cops and police cars showed up and it was over. I was glad I was 8 floors up and not walking outside.

This week we have done a lot of trackting. We haven’t found any new investigators but we have spent 4 hours everyday knocking on doors and we have gotten in 1 time everyday. My companion and I have a lot of fun trackting which is cool because it would make for a long transfer if he didn’t like having fun like me. We always take turns on door approaches and we give each other a random word we have to use at our door approach while talking to people. One door approach I had to use peace ( Paqe) and when the lady opened the door I started to talk but she thought we were Jehova Witnesses so she slammed her door and I just put up a peace sign and said peace, lol. My companion busted up laughing. He had to us steering wheel in his door approach and he did pretty good with it. He talked about being on the road of life and how the scriptures are our steering wheel and directs where we go. It was a fun night to say the least.

Alright I don’t have much time and I still have to write Kelsey. I will probably tell her how I ate a fish head this week at a house so you might want to have her tell you about that. It was disgusting!! Another crazy thing that happened was that an elder is getting sent home because a few months ago he fell and he has had some back problems and they found out he messed up one of his vertebrae’s and he has to go home which stinks. He has been out for 1 ½ years and he was the district leader. Now me and my companion are probably going co district leaders and we also might get the other elders companion who is from france and speaks very little English and has only been here for 2 weeks. It should be interesting to see what happens. It’s not for sure on us being DL’s and getting his elder but it’s an option. I will know for sure next week so I’ll let you know. It would be crazy to have all this on me with only 3 ½ months in the country."
